In 2012 Step Into Swim hosted a congress for 106 people and organizations, which traveled from 25 U.S. states and 4 countries. International attendees came from Canada, Mexico and the Ukraine. The Congress featured four leading organizations who presented their plan to help meet the demand to create 1 million more swimmers in the next 10 years. The National Swimming Pool Foundation® announced that the Step Into Swim™ Campaign was giving $40,000 to the four leading organizations to help realize the Campaign’s goals. The four non-profit agencies, American Red Cross, JCC Association, U.S. Swim School Association, and 21st Century Swimming Lessons, will teach children and adults the lifelong, lifesaving, healthy activity of swimming.
Swimming is a lifelong healthful activity that can reduce drowning and obesity, another critical problem among American children. “The Step Into Swim Campaign is all about helping organizations create more swimmers and improve national health,” says Thomas M. Lachocki, Ph.D., CEO, National Swimming Pool Foundation.
