Grant funding provides for swimming lessons in Shelby

     The City of Shelby was very fortunate to receive grant funding from the Step Into Swim Program. Step Into Swim is an initiative of the Pool & Hot Tub Alliance committed to focusing on drowning prevention and creating more swimmers.

     With Olympic medalist Rowdy Gaines at the helm, Step Into Swim has invested in the next generation of swimmers and supports learn-to-swim programs that provide children (and their families) of all ages and backgrounds with the lifesaving skill of learning to swim. Step Into Swim helps extend a safe and healthy pool experience to underserved communities through free access to swimming lessons. 

     Since 2012, Step Into Swim has funded swimming lessons for more than 300,000 children across the country and continues to make an impact where it matters. Through qualified instruction, swim lessons funded by Step Into Swim play an active role in providing access to safe swimming education and sparking confidence in the water and empowering children to believe they can do anything - because they can! 

     With grant funding, the city will be offering additional swim lesson sessions and Baby & Me classes throughout the summer. Families who qualify for a scholarship from the Step Into Swim program will receive lessons free of charge. To determine eligibility, Shelby City Hall has a short form to complete.  Scholarship forms are available at City Hall during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., or contact Lorette Carter at (406) 434-5222 or email lorette@shelby.mt.com. This is a first-come-first-serve program. Families interested in taking advantage of this program should contact City Hall as soon as possible.
